Professional idents
13:49
20th Century Fox, DreamWorks and Universal are all have different conventions towards their idents. For example, two of those production companies, the visual effects link with the name of the company whereas only one of the three I've chosen does not, as they're just advertising their brand by how affective the ident is.
20th Century Fox
20th Century Fox is all one big colour of gold, but the shadows and shapes of the ident bring out the name by making it feel more affective. Gold is used as a value of money, which would connote with the production companies logo to show that they have a big value. 20th Century Fox was founded in 1935 by Zanuck and Schneck, as they're 70 years old, back in 1935 a lot of music was orchestra, which is the sound track for the ident, so they've become so big, they can't change their ident as it's what everyone is used to. Also, as their soundtrack is so affective is excites the audience before the film starts. Their ident approximately has a during of twenty seconds long, it's not too long so the audience wouldn't get bored before they start watching the film, on average the duration for an ident should be around thirty seconds in length.
DreamWorks
DreamWorks was founded in 1994 by Geffen, Speilburg, Katzenberg. Their parent organisation is The Walt Disney Company and two other companies. DreamWorks ident starts off with a man sitting on the moon going fishing, which then the moon evolves into becoming the first letter of the companies name. This brings out a dreamlike state because of the unusual of a man going fishing of the moon. With the soundtrack complimenting the visual imagery by having a soothing calm charm which could relate to sending someone asleep. This ident is approximately twenty seconds long which is the same as 20th Century Fox. DreamWorks doesn't just promote their company, they promote a world of imagination and imagery just by dreaming. Many of their films are animated and are magical. Shrek and How To Train a Dragon are brilliant examples because of how unusual they are, and would only make sense in a dream. The pace of the ident starts off slow but then builds up speed when the title is being reviled behind the clouds, which would suggest that how you remember the beginning and endings of the dream but never the middle. This connects with the pace of the ident by how slow the start is, speeds up in the middle and ends slow again.
The colour of the font with the company is white which would match the clouds.
Universal Studios
Universal Studios was founded in 1912, which is the oldest company going between DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox and was founded by Swanson and Brulatour. Their parent organisation is Comcast and NBCUniversal. Universal has changed their ident a lot of times throughout the years, the first ident was a scale model of the earth spinning with a small plane flying around it, with no soundtrack at all. Universal's ident now came from the intro back in 1997, but still has a different sountrack to the one they have now. Through the years, Universal has changed their soundtrack towards the type of films that were made within that time. For example in the 90s, a lot of adventure films came coming through, so Universal changed their music to happy adventurous and exciting. On the ident they updated back in 2012, started off with the light shining from the countries on earth as it zooms out to the whole image. This suggests that the Earth has a bright future with all the ideas that come fourth and how much they've developed into better ideas and bigger dreams for film and television. Their ideas shining through to express how intense they've become. Towards 2013, they've modernised their ident with a more realistic effect with the Earth and the universe behind. The font has become more of a platinum, which is a very valuable metal, with gold trimmings on the edge, same with the 20th Century Fox ident, this would have suggested that have achieved a lot and are trying to make themselves top for home entertainment. Their soundtrack is big and dramatic, as it has been for the past ten years, this is the music everyone knows and loves from Universal Studios. The light shines off from the font while the soundtrack explodes at the end with the orchestra, with the three beats of the soundtrack, the light bounces off from the font which gives the whole ident a better effect towards the audience. This ident is approximately twenty-five seconds long which is longer than the other two but not by far. The name of the company connects with the visual imagery by having Earth and the universe which brings all of us to a big whole and tells the audience we'll all connected together.
