SoundCloud

SoundCloud is an online platform for users to stream or download tracks for free. SoundCloud consists of artists work, and other remixes from either the artist or different unique users. The users are unique because each of them are different as they upload different tracks that they've made or even tracks that they remixed. This is a good way to get out there in the music industry as a producer could come across an unique user, if they like what they hear, they could contact them, as SoundCloud connect the users with other social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. If you create an account, you can upload tracks easily with a hyperlink right next to the search bar which isn't hard to miss.

With SoundCloud, as this is only for mp3, you can't upload a .mov file or a .JPEG file.
You can follow your favourite artists and keep up to date with everything single or album they release. While clicking on their banner, this redirects you to iTunes, where you can buy the artists album for them to make a profit for their career.
You can't customize your account too much as everything is restricted. The only thing that can be customized is would be your description box, user name and profile picture. Everything else is set to default. Soundcloud is ranked 159 most used website in the world.

Vimeo

Using Vimeo you can upload videos to advertise your work as a portfolio but cannot add blogs or written statements. This is only a .MOV format. With vimeo you can also design your own layout but if you buy the vip access, if you're using the free version of Vimeo, customization is extremely limited within Vimeo as everything has a set default layout, while you can add your user name, profile picture and your description box. Using Vimeo you can add short films, documentaries, anything that uses .MOV file and a subject that you specialise in with that format. For example if you make fashion shoots, you can advertise your fashion ranges. This is a good portfolio to get your work out there, but this isn't good enough to show your creativity through your layouts and design ideas which could compliment the work you wish to present. Vimeo is ranked 193 most used website around the world.

These are the main file formats used to upload video onto a website. As I'm talking about Vimeo, Youtube follows the same formats as they're both video based. This creates flexibility with the filmmaker as they can upload in a file which would best suit them.

You can view your page views which improves in knowing who your audience is. While also easy access to your post through editing mode where you can update posts or save them as drafts so you can improve them later. Also viewing your blog is easy to find as there link is in bold.

My Portfolio

It's easy to navigate this website while not logged in, or without creating an account. So you can easily judge if this is the portfolio that would best suit you. As it's free to start using this website this good with people who don't choose to create a budget so this makes it easily accessible.

From researching different portfolio based websites and comparing the differences, I come across a website known as PortfolioBox. This unique website is mainly used for Photographers, Designers, Artists, Stylists, Models and Architects. You can sell your own work while also advertising your work to show off to potential clients and practitioners. This would suit be best as I can customise my portfolio is whatever layout I choose, so I can make the layout compliment my images that I'll be uploading. As this is mainly used for the Arts and Design side, this would be perfect for me to create a Photography portfolio.

Audience

As I can use the tool to create my own layout and colour correct it to however I choose, using a creative design that will compliment my images by staying the same theme. This would attract audiences from all over the industry from models, to clients. They could look at my portfolio and want me to be their photographer for their business or models could want me to help them create their own portfolio. Using this portfolio based website will give me masses of opportunities to gain contacts and clients. I'll keep the portfolio updated, keep it attractive and make sure it's easy to find all of my details in order for someone to contact me. While also updating my audience on future photo shoots that could happen and also could create my own fan base.

What Will It Show?

This is just an example of what my portfolio would like. It'll be similar as I'd have different genre's at the top with links so it'll be easily accessible. While having my logo in the centre and maybe have a small description about me underneath. I was going to have my photos in a distorted layout which would look like this.

I'll be showing images from all different styles and uses from personal to commercial, from landscape to contemporary. Also updating and creating my portfolio will also help me acknowledge my own style of photography which would be a lot helpful with creating my audience. Making updated blogs on my work will also interact with the audience and make them feel engaged with my work and other clients to see if I'm busy for them or not. This would be helpful so clients, models, architects, or anyone would know what I'm doing so they wouldn't feel left out of my work. Creating this portfolio would also advertise myself in order for me to gain contacts and respect within the industry, also becoming recognised.
