10/09/2015 - Introduction to Factual Programming
We started of the lesson by being introduced to Factual Programming and understanding the different techniques and genres used within the topic. We all got given at random a piece of paper which had a genre, looking at the genre and studying the different techniques used within the television show.
My group, got given the News genre, so we all chose a different channel to watch an episode of a news show. We used BBC Newsround, ITV Good Morning Britain and finally Channel 4. We noticed that all the different News channels follow the same techniques throughout the process of the show. For example, they give a brief consumption of the stories and then explain them in further detail. They also share the same fact that they repeat the stories. As they go on for a few hours, viewers could've missed some important information so they'll repeat a story about stocks, traffic, economics etc.
Factual Programming consists of many genres which could include: sports; reality; news; game shows; talk shows etc.
Overall we got taught the different conventions used within Factual Programming and how they use their techniques.
